6th Confirmed Bird Flu Case in Vietnam
January 14, 2005
>>A Vietnamese woman with bird flu is in critical condition, health officials said.
The 35-year-old woman from the southern province of Tra Vinh was being treated at a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, said Huynh Thanh Liem, deputy to the director of the province's Preventive Medicine Center.
The centre's director had earlier said she died, and state media also reported her death.
But Liem said he received confirmation that the woman remained in critical condition at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City.<<
The number of confirmed H5N1 bird flu cases in the Mekong Delta has now increased to six. Although none of the confirmed cases have been discharged, two are still in critical condition, including the 18 year old sister of a suspect case. There are 9 reported suspect cases.
This season, all reported avian influenza cases in Vietnam are in the Mekong Delta region.
