Canine and Equine Flu in the US
July 31, 2004
The two major serotypes for equine influenza are H3N8 and H7N7. There is some significant homology in M and NS genes between equine and avian H3N8 serotypes and serotype H5N1 found in Asia.
This may have relevance to the fatal H3N8 flu infections in greyhounds in Florida. Expanding host ranges in Asia may have migrated to North America.
