The detection of H5N1 is swine should not be a surprise. The sequence of a H5N1 swine isolate was deposited at GenBank. on June 6 and was publicly available about a month ago. I have commented on human/swine sequences in H5N1 isolates from Vietnam and Thailand on these commentary pages.
The isolates from Vietnam and Thailand have already recombined with human sequences and H5N1 in swine is a obvious concern.
